Character's Name: Xellos
Series: Slayers
Timeline: A little after the Slayers team head out to find the Hellmasters Jar. Season Slayers Evolution-R

Personality: Xellos is and will always be a trickster. His intentions are usually unreadable, and he may either help or hinder the people he is ‘working’ with at any given time. He can’t always be placed as a villain, but he certainly isn’t a good guy either. It all depends on what his ultimate goal happens to be at the time. Xellos is highly arrogant. This is one of his major failings, in fact. He expects to win every time, and tends to underestimate his opponent.
He usually tries to avoid engaging in combat most of the time, unless he has been directly ordered, or if it will further his plans. After all, the appearance that he wants to keep clashes with what he really is, and if he actually bothers to show the extent of his powers, that façade will be ruined. Most of the time, he’ll simply run away from a fight, only to pop up later and do it all again.
Xellos is normally very polite, addressing those he knows and meets with the title Miss or Mister, though is also just as easily subtly insulting. He normally comes across as playful, even childish at times, considering the pranks he likes to play. However, he is actually a highly intelligent, quick witted creature.
He enjoys frustrating people and getting them angry, and he seems to have a sort of child like curiosity when it comes to personalities. Experimenting with what gets a person riled up and with what makes them happy seems to entertain him.
While Xellos makes a point of never actually lying, he with holds information and gives only parts of the whole story, which can lead to misunderstandings on the part of those who dare to listen to him. For example, Xellos could tell a group of adventurers that there is a cave near a town that holds an incredible treasure, and this would be true.
However, he’d neglect to tell them about the various booby traps, or of the massive, irate, easily angered dragon guarding the treasure.
In the anime, the Slayers group sees him as something of a tolerable nuisance for the most part; when he’s on their side. Xellos’ only allegiance is to Zelas Metallium, and he hates being ordered around by anyone less. While he will claim to ‘assist’ and ‘help’ those who he is entrusted to by his Lord, he is extremely literal, and will seek out loop holes whenever he can. Everyone is a convenient tool and possible entertainment. Almost constantly, he has a smile on, and his eyes are almost always closed, save for when he attacks.
Xellos hardly ever truly gets angry, having an incredible amount of patience. He’s normally clever enough to avoid letting himself get worked up, or just doesn’t care about the various insults he plays target to.
However, when he is pushed far enough, the mazokus anger is something to be reckoned with. Empowered with more magic than is normally gifted to his level, he has easily destroyed a whole clan of dragons with a single swipe of his finger, and can be very cruel and sadistic in battle. When pushed, he takes obvious, preening glee at the pain of others that he causes, mocking them while he inflicts damage. In Slayers TRY, he nearly killed Val Garv with spikes, saying that “even small damage can kill if you hit someone enough.” However, this is a very, very rare occurrence, and normally he simply prefers to leave the scene before things get rough.
As evil as he can be, he also has, as stated before, a childish, almost innocent sort of nature. Occasionally clueless as to what is actually offensive or off putting, even if it seems obvious to others (ex: His question posed towards Lina after he admitted to her that he offered to kill her to gain Val Garvs trust “was that wrong?”). He even has a touch of the tourist in him, reading up about the towns he visits, buying the books, taking part in the towns activities and enjoying to local food and drink. Xellos even does a few of the tourist attractions (even though he had a bell dropped on him once for doing so).
What your character can offer: Xellos has a great deal of magical power and physical gifts. He is exceptionally fast, and physically quite strong, able to hold Gourry with one hand and carry Filia (who, despite her human form, still weighs as much as a typical, full sized golden dragon). Xellos has a great deal of physical endurance, and can stand up to a lot of pain and damage (In NEXT, his side was blasted completely away, leaving him with one arm and half a chest, and he was still capable of standing and even talking, as well as, of course, running/teleporting the hell away). He also has control of a huge amount of destructive magic, along with the ability to teleport and fly.
He is extremely smart and conniving, normally convincing others to do the work for him in some way or another.
Xellos’s only ‘weapon’ is his staff, which, like the other things on him, is simply a part of his physical human form, literally a part of his body.
What items will they be bringing with them? Technically, nothing. He’ll have his staff and a few useless nick nacks on him. As well as some money from around the various areas of home and his big book of useless tourist information.
Third-Person Sample: Lovely day for a walk, wasn’t it? Well… If he bothered to walk. More like ‘lovely day to laze around in a tree for several hours’. Stretched languidly across one of the massive branches, he sipped idly at a cup of tea, watching a scene unfold down below him as, yet again, the group beneath him bickered, without even thinking that the mazoku was even there. Of course, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
He could have done without the occasional reference to him however, and he pursed his lips a bit in mild offence as the phrase ‘annoying as that damned priest’ was bandied about. He’d intervene later, the show was great from up here! Too good to bother messing up because a certain chimera was growing sick of his antics. He went through his little mental to-do list as he looked on, taking his own silent, personal bets on who would convince who to do what this time around. Lina was the one with the most boisterous personality, even if Zelgadis had the whole intelligence and pride thing going. It was definitely Lina all the way here.
As predicted, he watched the chimera buckle and give in, and he hid a larger smile behind his hand as Zelgadis slunk off, the triumphant Lina not far behind. To an old temple now, was it? There was a chance that the Hellmasters jar was there. It’d be a dangerous trip for anyone forced to actually walk through the place. Surely it wouldn’t be an easy task.
Good luck to them! He was sure they would be just fine. They had an excellent track record so far, after all! The mazoku moved to follow, when his foot suddenly slid from the branch, and he found himself tumbling forward…
To land on a wooden floor?
First-Person Sample:
[The screen is flickering on and off. Like someone is playing with the button there. It also seems like they’ve gotten a profound interest in the typing function. The entire alphabet and a few odd numbers suddenly appear as well, with a few funny faces and symbols.
Then the voice function, or, rather, just a load of static with the occasional hint of a background sound tossed in. It seems like whoever is on the other side is just having a blast over here.
There’s a pause in all this fooling around… before a horrible, ear splitting shrill screeching erupts over the feed. It sounds like a mixture of nails on a chalkboard and microphone feedback. It’s only for a moment though, whatever the hell he’s doing, he stopped after only a few seconds]
… Oops! Well, I guess I shouldn’t have done that. Can everyone still hear over there?
